About Us

Mission

iCare's mission is to reduce isolation and improve the physical and mental fitness, wellness, and resilience of adults living with A/IDD (Autism and intellectual developmental disabilities) through targeted activity-based learning opportunities.

History

The iCare Program was established in 2016 by biologist Jacquelyn Kingston, driven by her passion for both conservation and helping individuals with special needs. After working closely with several adults in the special needs community, Jackie recognized a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by blending her expertise in environmental conservation with her desire to enrich the lives of underserved individuals.

Jackie’s journey toward creating the program began when she observed how conservation efforts, particularly in the realm of sea turtle preservation, could serve as an engaging and educational experience for adults with special needs. Inspired by the idea that increased conservation awareness could offer a fulfilling and empowering experience for this community, she decided to merge her two passions.

“I started this branch because it has always been on my heart to help people with special needs. I wasn’t sure exactly what that would look like until about 3 or 4 years ago when I decided to combine my work in sea turtle conservation with my passion for supporting adults with special needs,” said Jackie Kingston, 2020.

The iCare Program quickly grew in impact and reach, serving over 200 members to date. With a focus on providing meaningful, hands-on conservation experiences, the program hosts over 100 events annually, each designed to create a fun, educational, and inclusive environment for its participants.

Through the iCare Program, Jackie Kingston along slide with the staff and all the amazing volunteers has not only created a space for individuals with special needs to connect with the natural world but also built a community where participants are encouraged to grow, learn, and be inspired. The program continues to expand, making a lasting difference in the lives of both its members and the communities they serve.
