iCare’s mission is to reduce isolation and strengthen the physical health, mental wellness, and overall resilience of adults living with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities (A/IDD) through meaningful, activity-based learning experiences.
The iCare Program grew out of the nonprofit Sea Turtle Adventures and was founded in 2016 by biologist Jacquelyn Lorne, inspired by her deep love for the natural world and her heartfelt commitment to supporting individuals with special needs. Through her work alongside adults in the special needs community, Jackie witnessed firsthand how meaningful, hands-on experiences could spark confidence, joy, and genuine connection. She recognized a powerful opportunity to merge her background in environmental conservation with inclusive programming that truly changes lives.
What began as a small, passion-driven program has since blossomed into a thriving community. To date, iCare has served more than 200 members and now hosts over 100 events each year. Each experience is thoughtfully designed to be hands-on, educational, and welcoming—creating moments where participants feel valued, capable, and inspired while forming a meaningful connection to the environment.
In 2024, after eight years of growth under Sea Turtle Adventures, iCare proudly became its own nonprofit organization. This milestone reflected not only the program’s expansion, but the clear and growing need for a dedicated space where individuals with special needs can belong, learn, and flourish. Today, iCare is more than a program—it is a community rooted in empowerment, friendship, and purpose, making a lasting difference in the lives of its members and the communities they serve.
"It is the most amazing program for individuals on the spectrum. The program encourages the participants to be the best they can be. No limitations for individuals with disabilities. The socialization is one of a kind. The variety of different programs is top notch too." - Marc Pintel, Volunteer
" These types of events are so important for the lives of these special people as there are so few opportunities for them. The joy on their faces is priceless. And it is awesome that they can share the experience with peers and make friends in the process." - Stella Laurella, parent of iCare member
"Program is just amazing. Try it. You will be glad you did!" - Kathy Edenzon, parent of iCare member
